George Washington Clay VIEW PROFILE

George Washington Clay was born in 1825 in Perry County Alabama to the union of Abijah Clay (1802) and Mary Polly Waters Clay, and died on August 19, 1863, in Lauderdale, County Mississippi, near the end of the Civil War. George was 38 years old at the time of his passing. (PVT) George Washington Clay was a Confederate Soldier, died of latent injuries, defending slavery, with burial in Lauderdale Springs, CSA Cemetery in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. There is no headstone marker and the Memorial ID is 57962164, George served in CSA, Company E, 31st Alabama Infantry. John G Clay, Listed as father on his service record,filed a claim for his son's effects. This statement conflicts with the Census records that state Abijah Clay was his father. 

 

In the 1850 United States Census, George W Clay lived in Lauderdale, Mississippi. His wife was listed as Mary A Clay, Virginia A., Elizabeth E., and Adaline S. Clay. Morning Jewell was born in 1856, some records state 1856.

 

George Washington Clay and Mary A Hand were married on November 10 1845 in Sumpter, Alabama.and to that union,  Virginia A Clay, Elizabeth E Clay, Adeline S Clay, and Morning Jewel Clay.
