On November 10, 1845, Mary A. Hand and George W. Clay were married ( page 344, Alabama marriage indexes, 1814 - 1935) in Livingston, Alabama. George W. Clay was a Confederate Soldier. Mary A. Hand was a dark complexioned Cherokee Indian, evidenced by the fact that Morning Jewel Clay had a brown complexion. Mary A Hand died in 1855 in Sumpter, Alabama. The Cremation occurred Lauderdale, Lauderdale County Mississippi. George Clay, brother of Morning Jewel Clay was listed as Mallato in the Census records, taking the complexion of his father who served as a confederate soldier.
