Cheryl Lynn Witt VIEW PROFILE

Cheryl Lynn Witt was born on September 5, 1959 and passed on August 7, 2014. Cheryl was the daughter of Edward Earl Witt  and  the late Vivian S. Witt of Birmingham, Alabama.  Cheryl entered Alabama A & M University where she earned a BS degree in office administration. Cheryl also worked at Alabama A & M University for over 30 years in the Comptroller's office.  Cheryl was a member of Alpha Kappa  Alpha Sorority Inc. Rho Chi Omega.  She is survived by her father,  Edward E. Witt Sr.;  sister, Candace (Stephen) Hornbuckle; brothers, Edward E. (Deacquanetta) Jr., and Cedrick Holmes; nieces, Brooklyn and Albany Hornbuckle; nephew, Jameson Witt; and aunt Maxine S. Scott.  Funeral Service will be held  on Wednesday, August 13, 2014,  at noon,  at St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church, Huntsville, Alabama. Internment will be Thursday, August 14, 2014 at noon at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.

Alabama A & M University employee dies in car crash.  Alabama A & M University lost an employee of more than 30 years Thursday when Cheryl Witt succumbed to injuries sustained in a car crash. Huntsville police say that Cheryl Witt was heading west on Interstate 565 near Research Park Boulevard that morning when a car traveling eastbound lost control and crossed over the median.  Police say an 18-wheeler in front of Cheryl Witt swerved out of the way, and the oncoming car crashed head-on into Cheryl Witt.  Police say that she likely did not see the on-coming car because of the truck in front of her and she  had no time to react.

 

Both drivers sustained serious injuries. Cheryl Witt died at Huntsville Hospital onThursday night. She was 54 year old.

 

Alabama A & M President Andrew Hugine issued the following statement:

 

"Alabama A & M University is deeply saddened by the death of Ms. Cheryl Witt. Ms. Witt was a dedicated employee of more than 30 years in the Comptroller's Office of the Division of Business and Finance at the University. She had a very pleasing personality and was very committed to providing excellent services to our students.  She was well respected and liked by her colleagues and will certainly be missed by the Alabama A & M University Family. Please continue to keep the Witt family, her friends and colleagues in your prayers."
