Pleasant Witt was born in Sumpter County Alabama on August 24, 1840 and died on February 12, 1926, spending his final days with his daughter Eva in Laurel, Mississippi, where he died at the age of 85 years old. Pleasant Witt was born to the union of William "Bill" Witt and Fannie Hare and spent most of his adult life as a very successful farmer in Belmont, a community adjacent to Livingston, Alabama. Pleasant Witt, Henry Witt and Wesley Hare, jointly purchased a large tract of land from Joseph Arrington in 1867. FHL Film 1908279. Pleasant lived in Belmont, Film #545539 in the 1920 Census. Pleasant lived in Laurel, ward #2, Jones County, Mississippi, and he was widowed at this time.
According to land records in 1867, Pleasant Witt, Henry Witt, and Wesley Hare, who were previously enslaved to Joseph Arrington, were jointly deeded a large tract of land in West Alabama, which later evolved as a part of the West Campus of the University of Alabama - West Campus. Over the years, this would be a part of the economic engine that became the Breakthru and diversity that allowed the creation of businesses in Livingston, farms, and the migration to Birmingham, Chicago, Oklahoma and Midwestern States.
