A very important discovery today June 5, 2021. After searching more than 40 years, Peggy Washington was listed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the US Slave Manifests, 1807 - 1860. The slave owner was William Lee Goodwin. I will check to see if Robert Goodwin, my great, great grandfather is listed in a nearby group of names. I was in New Orleans when I was around 14 years old and I walked past a boy who looked exactly like me. Both of us turned around and stared at each other for a long time, he was about 10 years old, both too young to have the perception to ask questions. I had run away from home at the time, from Birmingham, Alabama to New Orleans. It is rare to have the enslaved names listed, in-part to keep people of color from discovering their roots and locating stolen legacies and assets. I plan to travel to Greensboro, Alabama to interview a few people and visit a grave yard and do the same in Union, Arkansas. You cannot track every clue using the Internet.
